Guards of light He went immediately to the laboratory with his wife and put Eileen on one of the exam tables. Dendrake who conducted just a few experiments with demon blood, looked at him in astonishment. “Dennis, what happened? Why do you bring your wife here? She isn`t one of us. She is not allowed to know our true identity.“ Then his look fell on Eileen`s bloody neck. Dendrake turned white. "Windu?" Dennis only nodded. “What happened I`ll tell you later. We urgently have to examine her blood. Maybe ...“ Skeptical Dendrake looked at him. He knew that the slightest scratch, which was caused by the sharp teeth of a Windudemon, inevitably leads to infection and thus leads to a transformation. Nevertheless, he jammed the blood in Eileen`s left arm with a rubber band, disinfected the crook of the arm, pierced the thin needle of the syringe into it carefully and took off her blood. Dendrake removed the cuff and went with the sample in the adjacent laboratory, added a few drops of an indicator fluid, put the sample into the centrifuge, and turned it on. A low hum filled the room. After a few moments, the blood sample stained jet black. Dennis, who had followed Dendrake into the lab, closed his eyes in despair. Now he had certitude. His wife was infected with the Winduvirus. She was lost. Within hours, she would turn into a demon, who had no memories of his human existence any more. She would hunt for humans and not spare even her own family. “She must be killed before she becomes a hazard. Only the Mighties could save her, but you know that they refuse to intervene in the affairs of the people.” Dennis and Dendrake turned around to Phil, who had unnoticed entered the lab together with Eva and Stephanie. "Dennis, you know that she has to be killed." Phil put comforting a hand on Dennis` shoulder. "I`m so sorry." Slowly, as if in a trance, Dennis nodded. He could not hold back the tears any more. "Then hurry up, I don`t want that she has to suffer." He walked slowly toward the door to the next room, which was half open, still, to assist his wife in her last minutes. His hand touched the door handle and he opened the door completely. For the second time that day he stood as if petrified. The couch on which a few minutes ago the unconscious body of his wife was located, was empty. Only a few spots of blood testified to the fact that she really had been lying on it. The glass door through which one could get into the large garden was open. Phil pushed his way past to Dennis in the room and rushed into the garden. Eileen was for miles around not to see. She already had to have reached the nearby forest that encompassed the plot of land. A search was futile. The forest stretched for miles and if they had actually luck and would find Eileen, in the meantime she would had turned into a dangerous demon. Dendrake put comforting a hand on Dennis` shoulder. Eileen drank a sip of tea. With a shudder she thought of the fear that she has endured, as she has heard the conversations in the next room after she was awoke from her swoon. She would be transformed into one of these hideous creatures, and nothing could stop the process. Then one of the men in the next room mentioned any Mighties who could help, but they never interfered in the affairs of the people. In her mind she pleaded with the Mighties. Her entire mind screamed out her fears. She didn`t want to become a demon, did not want to transform. Under no circumstances. When she had given up all hope and had heard from the next room that they wanted to kill her, embraced her consciousness suddenly a blazing bright aura. First she heard a whisper. Then she could distinguish individual voices. "You beg us to help you? Well, we`ll do it. We will ensure that you not become a demon. Another change will be made. We will equip you with great power. How you use this power is up to you. We will show you the possible future lines. You choose which will then arrive.” She felt an incredible heat rising in her. She believed she had to burn. Every fibre, every cell of her body seemed to be taken up in flames. And then the pictures came ... It was horrible. Eileen took another sip of tea, which had now cooled down. She had decided. In the next room they got ready to kill her. Eileen rolled from the couch. She still had the feeling that her entire body burned. On the opposite side of the room was a glass door that led into a large garden. Eileen opened it and ran as fast as she could toward the forest. She had reached the first trees of the dense undergrowth. Quickly she hid behind one of the trees and looked back to the estate. A group of men rushed at this moment out of the open door of the terrace. Her heart beat wildly. She should not be stopped. Too much was at stake. Relieved, she realized that the men did not pursue her but went back into the house with serious expressions. Eileen went in the little kitchen with her cup, washed the cup and put it in the tiny cupboard above the sink. Tomorrow she would have to buy new tea, she found, after looking in the cupboard. Eileen decided to go to bed. The next day would be exhausting again. She had still much to do before her fate should be fulfilled.
