For Harry and Ron life at Hogwarts is no fun without Dumbledore, Hagrid and Hermione. Fear is spreading through Hogwarts leaving Draco almost untouched, who seems to be pleased with the whole situation.
During Herbology classes Ernie Macmillian apologizes for suspecting him to be the Heir of Slytherin. But even more important: Harry watches spiders fleeing into the Forbidden Forest.
Since they are accompanied by teachers all day, only nighttime is left for Harry and Ron to investigate. Accompanied by Fang they enter the Forbidden Forest. Suddenly they are surprised by the flying car, they used to get to Hogwarts at the beginning of the year. But suddenly they are attacked by enormous spiders and forget about their joyful meeting with the car.
Harry and Ron stand before Aragog, the ancestor of all these spiders, and talk with him. He tells them that he was accused of the murder at the castle 50 years ago, but that he was not guilty. There is another monster, which frightens even him so much, that he will not say it′s name.
Because Hagrid has raised him and helped him to flee and get to know his wife, he never eats any human meat, but his children probably would. Suddenly Harry and Ron get encircled by spiders, which like to eat fresh meat but the Ford Anglia rescues them.
Hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, they go back to the common room and think about what they just experienced. Now they are sure, that Hagrid is not guilty. Tom Riddle has suspected the wrong one. And suddenly an idea occurs to Harry. The killed pupil could have been the Moaning Myrtle, who is living in the girl′s toilet since than as a ghost.
