The Christmas holidays start on the next day and after having spent a sleepless night pondering all new information on Sirius Black, Harry goes into an empty Great Hall for lunch. A visit in Hagrid’s hut should provide some positive change, but it does not prove effective. Harry, Ron and Hermione learn that Hagrid is expecting a hearing because of the incident with the Hippogriff Buckbeak.
When Harry gets up on Christmas morning he unwraps his presents – a pullover from Molly Weasley, cookies and cake and surprisingly a new broom – a Firebolt. It is the best broom on the market. Yet from whom did he get it? Hermione is so concerned that she asks Professor McGonagall for help. The professor confiscates the broomstick to check it for curses.
