The Weasleys and Harry are being picked up by staff cars of the Ministry and brought to the station. On the train the three friends enter a nearly empty compartment – only Professor R.J. Lupin is sitting in it - and begin to talk about Sirius. When the discussion topic changes to Hogsmeade, Harry becomes a little sad as he still has not obtained a signature. They start to think about how he could get a permission.
Before arriving at its destination, the train suddenly stops and everything becomes dark and cold. A strange figure appears. Harry is hearing screams and feels as if he were in the midst of thick, white fog and then faints. When he opens his eyes again, he is lying on the floor and his friends are bent over him. Everyone has felt bad, but he is the only one who fainted. Professor Lupin explains that the creatures that boarded the train were Dementors and gives some chocolate to Harry. The chocolate makes humans feel much better after meeting a Dementor. When the Hogwarts Express has finally arrived, all pupils already seem to know the news about Harry. The Slytherin Third-Years are making fun of him for being the only one to faint when confronted with Dementors. Especially Draco Malfoy makes fun of Harry.
After having met Professor McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey Harry, Ron and Hermione make their way into the Great Hall, where they have missed the sorting, but are still in time to welcome Hagrid as the new teacher for Care of Magical Creatures and Professor Lupin for Defence Against the Dark Arts. Harry gets to know that the Dementors protect the school from now on.
