Chapter 6 - Talons and Tea Leaves
On the first day of school Harry is yet again greeted with laughter by the Slytherins because of his fainting whereas Ron is occupied with the timetables, as Hermione’s is overfull. Just when Ron wants know how she is able to be in three classes at the same time Hagrid walks past, very much looking forward to giving his first lesson. The three friends arrive at their first lesson, Divination, where Professor Trelawney explains the contents of her subject and is startling them with sinister predictions. The students start Divination by trying to read tea leaves and Professor Trelawney checks the different cups. She sees the Grim in Harry’s cup, which is an omen of death. In the next lesson Professor McGonagall asks the class who will be going to die this year according to the divinations of her colleague.
Hagrid leads the students near to the forest for their first class of Care of Magical Creatures. On the way there Draco makes fun of Harry again. Harry involuntarily has to be the first one to meet a Hippogriff. When Draco sees that Harry performs the task of dealing with a Hippogriff well, he provokes the Hippogriff and gets injured. Hagrid is despaired and thinks that he will get sacked.
