After the flight of the Fat Lady all the students have to sleep in the Great Hall while the teachers are searching the castle for Sirius Black, whom they do not find however. The Fat Lady is replaced by the portrait of Sir Cadogan who now guards the entrance to the Gryffindor common room and keeps changing the password perpetually.
The first Quidditch-game of the season was to take place against the Slytherins, but as Draco simulates his arm injury so well, Gryffindor has to play Hufflepuff instead.
The day before the game brings another unwelcome surprise: Defense Against the Dark Arts is not taught by Professor Lupin but rather by Professor Snape who confronts them with the subject of werewolves, which is one of the last chapters of the book.
The weather on the first Quidditch game proves to be quite a challenge with its wind gusts and heavy rain. Moreover, just when Harry has spotted the snitch and thinks he has also seen the Grim in the stands, he is overwhelmed by the presence of more than a hundred Dementors on the pitch and thus falls off his broomstick. Harry’s broom gets blown off, is destroyed by the Whomping Willow and the Gryffindors lose the first game of the season.
