Frank Bryce, the gardener of the family Riddle who once lived in a stately home in a small village and died under mysterious circumstances, still lives on the estate 50 years later. One evening he sees a burning fire in the empty house of the Riddles and sneaks off to the house. He eavesdrops on a conversation between You-Know-Who and Wormtail concerning the murder of Berta Jerkins, who is a witch working for the Ministry of Magic. After that they talk about a plan for which Harry Potter is important and about a faithful servant helping him in Hogwarts. Suddenly a snake called Nagini slides into the room. She tells Voldemort that Frank is listening, so You-Know-Who kills Frank Bryce.
