Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Chapter 33 - The Prince′s Tale
After the murder of Snape Lord Voldemort issues a second ultimatum, giving an hour of truce before battle will continue unless Harry surrenders himself. Harry returns to the Great Hall and runs to the headmaster′s office to have a look at Snape′s thoughts in the Pensieve. He sees how Snape first met Lily before even going to Hogwarts, how Lily and Petunia quarrel about magic and how Lily stood up for Snape always during their school careers before breaking contact because of the Dark Magic. He also watches Snape begging Dumbledore to protect Lily and sees him devastated when he learns of her death, nevertheless promising to watch over Harry. He starts to understand Snape′s role in Dumbledore′s death and his help with their search when he sent Gryffindor′s sword. The last memory finally reveals the whole truth about Harry himself: How a piece of Lord Voldemort′s soul lodged itself in his own body. Harry is a Horkrux. Snape is shocked about the fact that Harry has to die, he always wanted to protect him for Lily.
